For Referring Providers

Thank you for the work you do supporting patients with IBS.

Many patients complete appropriate medical evaluation and follow treatment recommendations, yet continue to experience persistent symptoms. Brain–gut psychotherapy addresses the gut–brain axis directly, helping patients reduce symptom-related anxiety, nervous system reactivity, and fear-based patterns that can maintain or worsen symptoms.

When to Consider Referral

Based on Rome Foundation clinical guidance, referral may be helpful when patients:

  • Continue to experience GI symptoms despite appropriate medical care
  • Report anxiety related to symptoms or flare-ups
  • Avoid activities, travel, or meals due to fear of symptoms
  • Demonstrate hypervigilance to gut sensations
  • Struggle to follow dietary or treatment plans due to stress or overwhelm
